Rock Castle's Feminine Side

"Behind every great man..."

Rock Castle may be known as the home of Daniel Smith, surveyor secretary, senator, and founding frontiersman of Tennessee, but it is also the home of generations of Smith family women whose lives shaped and molded the story of Rock Castle.

Beginning with Sarah Michie Smith, the family's strong matriarch, and continuing along the lineage all the way to Sarah Crosby Berry, Rock Castle's last farmer, this exhibit will highlight the changing role of women in the home and the contributions made by the women who lived and worked at Rock Castle.

Join us in March 2014 as Rock Castle participates in National Women's History Month's "Celebrating Women of Character, Courage, and Commitment." Our month-long exhibit will feature:

  • Specialized House Tours

  • Living History Demonstrations

  • Online Exhibits

  • Social Media

  • And much more!
